Isaac V. Reynolds to His Wife

Camp Comfort
March 18 1863

Dear wife

I seat myself this morning to drop you a few lines to inform you I am well at this time. Hoping these lines will find you well. I have nothing of importance to write at this time. We are still here in camp yet. We have got our arms at last and five companys of this regt have gone to the border on an expedition, I dont think it will pay. Either three or four of our boys went with them this morning.

There was 30 men detailed from Capt Perrys Co to go on and guard the provisions for them. They are going to Wyoming county and other counties on the border.

We are drilling now like thunder every day and living on dried beef & sometimes bread alone. You may tell the old man that I havent ingaged that mare yet, the boys are very anxious for horses but want to see them before they purchase. I have asked them 150 dollars they say that is cheap enough. I think you will be very safe in giving $80 for her, I can sell her in the spring to some of them. They are compelled to have horses.

Now dad has brought the other pen and ink back, he had borrowed it for a few minutes. Write to me as soon as you get this and let me know how you are getting along. Nothing more at this time, only remain

Yours till death
I V Reynolds
