February 14, 1936 Confederate Vet Dies at Cleveland
The thin gray line grows thinner in Russell county, and when Joseph Ashby died near Cleveland Saturday the remaining Confederate veterans in the county can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
This old citizen gave splendid service as a soldier of the Civil war, participating in many battles in the four year campaign. Notwithstanding he was full of years he continued active up to a short time before his death.
Funeral was held Monday following and burial took place near the former place of his residence at Carrie, Dickenson county.
