September 13, 1901 | Abingdon Weekly Virginian, Abingdon, Virginia A union of the McElhaney Camp United Confederate Veterans, was held last week and a goodly number of those who wore the gray were present. The meeting was held on the college campus, where the ladies had prepaired a bountiful dinner. Captain H. H. Dickenson, who has been commander of the camp since its organization, tendered his resignation, and Captain J. C. Gent was elected in his stead. Speeches were made by Rev. W. N. Buckley, J. C. Gent, and H. C. Burns. The veterans had an enjoyable time. A camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans will be organized in the near future. |
