Town and County Local Happenings

Unveiling of the Confederate monument July 18th. You want to spend this day in Lebanon.

News reached Lebanon this week of the burning of Rod Addison's home near Bolton. Most of the household goods were saved.

Unveiling July 18th.

The biggest throng of people ever assembled in Lebanon on any occasion will be here July 18th at the unveiling of the Confederate monument.
Dirt was broken Monday morning for the foundation and already the monument is arriving and every thing will be in readiness Saturday, July 18th.
The monument is of a handsome white marble design towering 25 feet skyward and surely "a thing of beauty and a joy for forever."
Surely every person who will gaze on this piece of marble, especially those that have contributed so liberally will experience a deep swelling of pride and consider it money well spent and glad to have been able to pay homage to the boys who so nobly fought for the cause which they knew was right and which was right.
This monument does not stand alone in honor our our dear deceased heroes but to the living ones as well.
We want every old soldier in this county and from everywhere else to be in attendance for this will be a day of all days.
Noted speakers will be in attendance and the committee hopes to secure the services of a brass band and no doubt "Dixie" and "Marching Through Georgia", etc. will be revived.
