June 30, 1928 Rev. Maiden Heard
Rev. George A. Maiden, pastor of the Lebanon Methodist church 45 years ago, delivered the annual memorial sermon of the Confederate veterans from the Methodist church pulpit last Sunday according to previous announcement.
Rev. Maiden delivered a very find sermon which was greatly enjoyed by the large number that had assembled to hear this grand old servant of Christ.
He preached at length and interestingly on Peter's denial, and as illustrations used persons in the churches who acknowledged Christ on the Sabbath and by their daily living denied Him every day of the week. His definition of this type of so-called Christian was hypocrite and stated that the old church rule of turning them out should again be adopted.
Only six of the brave old boys of the sixties were in attendance out of the 19 surviving ones in the county. According to records kept by Commander J. W. Bausell, of the McElhaney Camp, 10 old veterans have answered the last roll call since the memorial sermon delivered this June one year ago by the Rev. Tyler Frazier.
Those in attendance were:
Henry Mabe, 85; W. H. Fuller, 88, B. F. Francisco, 89; A. L. Hurt, 83; N. S. Dickenson, 83; J. W. Bausell, 83.
Four widows of Confederate veterans have passed away within the past twelve months.
