Pension Board.
Dear Sir: - You need not look so dreadfully excited on being called up from the delightful revery in your sanctem sanctorium. I just thought you would be glad to know for sure that I am numbered with the living, notwithstanding the mishap in getting the fall which proved to be more serious than first anticipated. Am feeling rather rough yet from the effects, but hope I will be able to ride to town soon. Quite a good number of my friends came in during court and commencement time. Mrs. T. H. Lemons and Miss Fannie Hurt expects to remain with us for sometime. My old friend, a worthy confederate veteran, and a member of the Pension Board, came out, bringing with him [..] bundles of pension papers which we proceeded to examine, allowing 8 new applicants and 17 returnings, and returning 17 to the court owing to their discrepancies. I send herewith a list of the 17, hoping that if published in your wide-a-wake paper, that they certainly do have life enough in them to take their county paper and watch up their own interest, and remedy their applications before the next regular term of court. You can consign this to what you conceive to be its just deserts - waste basket, I guess. The refered list follows:
N. C. Jessee, Rebecca Ferguson, Fanny Smith, Eunice Salyer, J. E. Boardwine, M. L. Porter, Plem Austin, No. 1, Flem Austin, No. 2, Silas Castle, A. [...] Garrett, No. 2., J. C. Chafin, No. 2, J. P. Skeen, No. 2, A. T. Garrett, No. 2, Thos. Culbertson, NO. 2, Wm. tAylor, James Clark.
Yours truly,
M. S. HURT,
Chairman P. B.
