Grizzled Vetrans At Birthday Party

Ninety-Second Birthday of Geo. W. Williams.

With the beauty of a warm February sun bathing the hill country north of Lebanon last Friday, the hand clasp of comrades of the sixties, seeing many friends and talking over the memorable struggle of long ago, the ninety-second birthday of George W. Williams, grand old man and Christian gentleman, was made enjoyable for him and to his guests.

The invitation extended to all the old Confederates thru the Lebanon News to be his guests on the day he would attain his ninety-second year was accepted by the following grizzled old veterans:

N. S. Dickenson 85
N. B. Smith 89
A. T. Kegley 85
J. W. Bausell 86
Wm. Fuller 82
Henry Mabe 89
Lilburn Hurt 86

Adding the 92 years of George W. Williams, the ages of the 8 Confederates present total 694 years.

the place of this happy occasion was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fuller, near Spring City, and there were more good things to eat than a hungry country editor had seen in many days, and it was prepared in the good old Virginia country way.

Some one in the crowd told a good one on uncle Henry Mabe. After fighting and marching for days with scarcely anything to eat the soldiers went into camp on night and the pangs of hunger put Mr. Mabe on the lookout for something appetizing and he soon "captured" an old rooster which he dressed and put on to boil, but before the water got hot orders were given to march and the rooster was jerked out of the water and carried to the next stop and before the water got hot again orders were given to move and when the long tramp, lasting into the next day, ended, the rooster had "spiled" and uncle Henry went hungry for another stretch of time.

The words of a song "Time is Speeding Away" was given to the crowd by N. S. Dickenson and was enjoyed as was also the songs he sung.

Others present include Thomas Williams, Mrs. Sam Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, Misses Edna Fuller, Thelma Fuller and Bertha Burns, Mrs. Charles Gibson, Mrs. John Burns, Miss Mae Lois Davis and H. F. Bausell.
