[34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry]
CAMP NEAR JEFFERSONVILL, VA.
January 19, 1862.

DESERTERS, DESERTERS. The following named non-commissioned officers and privates are deserters from my Battalion, and the usual reward of Thirty Dollars each, is offered for their apprehension and delivery to me at Camp, or confinements in jail at Jeffersonville, Tazewell co Va., and due notice to me of the fact of their incarceration.

Company A.

William Lockhart

Company B.

F. M. Blair
Crocket Witt
Plessant Witt

Company C.

Nick Howaker [Honaker]

[Note: a long list of deserters, I have pulled out the most likely Russell County soldiers above, although not all show service in the 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry. No muster records appear to have survived from the time the unit was the 1st Battalion Virginia Mounted Rifles.]
