September 19, 1913 CONFEDERATES HAVE JOYOUS REUNION DAY.Met In Annual Reunion Saturday.
The annual reunion of the old soldiers of Russell county, McElhaney Camp 835, held at Honaker last Saturday was great, ninety of the boys who wore the gray, being present and enjoyed the occasion made joyous for them by the hospitable people of Honaker.
Honaker always shows her true southern love and hospitality at these reunions.
J. W. Bausell was again re-elected Commander and Nat Dickenson, Adjutant. After the business of the camp was transacted the gray hared men marched to the Honaker hotel where they enjoyed a splendid dinner.
On arriving at the hotel Rev. F. H. Fuller, pastor of the Baptist church, delivered the address of welcome which made the Camp feel at home. Dinner over, the newly elected adjutant, Mr. Nat Dickenson, sand, "Virginia," after which Rev. Hall, pastor of the Methodist congregation, made a short speech introducing the renowned and eloquent preacher, Rev. L. M. Cartright, of the Lebanon Methodist church. Rev. Cartright spoke at some length and interestingly, introducing much of his southern sympathy, wit and humor, making his address both a masterpiece of oratory and entertainment.
With a hand shaking, the singing of "America", by the young ladies, and "God be with you till we meet again," the 1913 reunion was over.
By invitation from D. C. Stuart the next reunion will be held at No. 4, in Elk Garden.
