August 23, 1935 One Lone Veteran
One lone veteran of the War between the States attended the annual service here Sunday in honor of the survivors of the large contingent of soldiers sent from Russell county to fight for the southern cause, and in memory of that much larger portion of the group which has died.
The service, however, attracted a large group from all sections of the county.
Rev. E. N. Woodward, pastor, had charge of the service. Mrs. Nora Burns Whittaker, of Bristol, sang. B. F. Francisco, of Moccasin, 95, was the survivor who attended. At the request of Rev. Woodward, he made a short talk.
