BIRTHDAY DINNER.

Old Soldiers Have a Good Time.

There was a pleasant gathering on March the 11th at the home of Mr. Vince Jessee, near Lebanon. It was the birthday of A. S. Jessee, and not far from the birthday of his brother, Vince, so they decided to observe the day together and to invite a number of old confederate veterans to join them in it. Accordingly early in the day the old soldiers began to gather until the house was well filled. And such a time as they had talking about the days and times that tried men's hearts! Mr. Vince Jessee seemed disappointed that his old friend and war companion, A. F. Hurt, who had helped him to eat dog during the war failed to come.

The following gentlemen were present: Vince Jessee, of company G, 29th Va., Regiment of Infantry; J. T. Gibson, company G, 29th Va.; G. W. Williams, company G, 29th Va,; Henry Mabe, company G, 29th Va.; F. M. Steele, company H, 29th Va.; L. A. Gilmer, company C, 37th Va., Infantry; J. H. Sullivan, company I, 37th Va., Infantry; J. J. Henritze, company C, 37th Va., Infantry; A. F. Fields, company A, 16th Va., cavalry; J. R. Campbell, company A, 16th Va., cavalry; A. S. Jessee, company A, 22nd Va., cavalry; Dr. J. H. Duty, company A, 2nd Va., cavalry; James H. Martin, company H, 34th Va., cavalry; and Rev. W. A. Pearson, Price's Battery, McIntost's Battalion of Artillery.

Thus all the branches of the service were represented, and all present greatly enjoyed the good dinner served. Mr. Jessee himself seemed thankful that he lo longer had to eat dog, and his guests will wish him many returns of the happy festive occasion.
