Confederate Vet Celebrates His 96th Birthday
NICKELSVILLE, Va., May 14. On Sunday the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Francisco's was the scene of a happy birthday celebration given in honor of their uncle, Maj. B. F. Francisco, of Hansonville, Va. This celebrated Mr. Francisco's 96th birthday. He is one of the very few surviving Confederate veterans of Russell county. During the war he endured many hardships and engaged in many of the hardest fought battles.
At 12:00 o'clock a large table was carried onto the porch and laden with a bountiful dinner. A large white birthday cake bearing 96 candles adorned the center of the table.
In the afternoon Mr. Francisco gave a talk expressing his appreciation of the honor received and wishing he might be permitted to spend many more happy birthdays with his relatives and friends. Later in the afternoon pictures were taken and songs sung which he enjoyed. Many useful presents were received.
