Obituary of Hezekiah Webb Bays

Prominent Minister Dead.

Rock Hill, May 3. - Dr. Henry W. Bays, one of the best known Methodist ministers in the state, died Sunday morning, following an illness of one week. He was 78 years old. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. W. G. Stevens, Mrs. W. B. Wilson, Mrs. T. A. Moore, this city; Mrs. H. C. Blackman, Asheville. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. S. Truesdale, Columbia, assisted by local ministers. Dr. Bays served in the Confederate army, being a native of Virginia. For years he was a power in Methodism and was presiding elder of the Rock Hill, Charleston and Sumter districts.
