Obituary of Robert Preston Carson

October 24, 1924

Col. R. P. Carson Dead

Col. R. P. Carson aged ninety three years, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Preston in the lower end of the county on Monday. The deceased was a Confederate soldier in the Stonewall Brigade with a rank of Colonel, principal for a number of years of Abingdon Male Academy. Superintendent of Public Instruction of this county for several years and was in educational work for the greater part of his life in this section of the state.

He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Henry Preston and one son, Sam Carson and several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter on Wednesday morning and interment followed in Walnut Grove cemetery.
