Obituary of John Taylor Carter

June 25, 1908

Jack Carter Dead.

Hon. Jack Carter, of Russell county, died last week aged 68 years. In 1872-3 he represented Russell county in the House of Delegates and was an able representative. He was as true to his friends as the needle to the pole. One of his characteristics was to love his friends and hate an enemy. With all his faults he was a hightoned, honorable man, and a friend to the poor. During his illness and before he was strickened down, his wife nursed him with that true devotion, characteristic of a true and loving wife. In fact, she seemingly never tired, and was always at his bed-side giving him every comfort possible.

He left the bulk of his large estate to his wife with the exception of nine persons who were named for him, he gave $500.00 each. The editor and the deceased were life long friends, and no one except his family regretted his death more than we did. His wife has hour profound sympathy. - Clintwood Times.
