May 4, 1928 16th Virginia Warrior Dead
Jacob Castle, four score and six years of age, died Monday night in the Castlewood district of Russell county.
The close of this life and earthly pilgrimage brings to mind the early life of the deceased who gallantly served the South in the war of 1861-5. He was a member of the old 16th Virginia Cavalry, McCausland's command, and did a soldier's part in the fierce fighting in the eastern part of the State.
An old comrade, speaking of the deceased, said that he was a fearless soldier and did a soldier's part in every battle.
A wife survives also children by the first marriage.
