Death of Old Resident
James H. Elliott, an old resident of this county, and a veteran of the Civil war, died at his home in the northwest part of Ravanna township last Wednesday of kidney trouble. The funeral was held at the residence Friday morning conducted by Rev. Chas. Hickman after which the body was laid to rest in the Laughlin cemetery near Lineville.
Mr. Elliott was born November 20, 1830 at Lebanon, Va., and spent his early life upon the farm. His education was received through attendance at subscription schools. Except for the time spent in the army he has been a life long tiller of the soil. In 1882 he settled at Lineville, Iowa, and has been a resident of this county ever since.
On May 16, 1859 he was married to Permelia Litton and to this union ten children were born, eight of whom are still living. They are Geo. W.; Mrs. Gorman of Clio; Thomas J. of Moro, Ill.; Mrs. Samuel Porter; John T.; Alexandria of Oklahoma; Andrew J. and Wilson D.
He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church and a firm believer in the principles of the Democratic party.
