Oscar F. Ferrell Dead
Oscar F. Ferrell died quite suddenly at the home of his son, just southwest of Olathe, Monday evening, June 25, at 5 o'clock. Grandpa Ferrell was taken ill Monday morning and sank rapidly until death came to relieve him from intense suffering.
Oscar F. Ferrell was born in Russell County, Virginia, October 14, 1836, and so was 86 years, 8 months and 11 days old. In Virginia he grew up and lived until 1888, when he moved to Illinois, and from that place moved to Brookfield, Mo., in 1901. The family moved to Olathe in 1908.
Mr. Ferrell was married first to Mary Cordell in 1860, and to this union were born six children, five of whom preceded him to the great beyond. One son, Richard, of Olathe, survives him. His second marriage was to Darthula Griffith in May, 1866. The second Mrs. Ferrell died four years ago.
Mr. Ferrell was a successful farmer and livestock man. He was distinguished for his uprightness and Christian character. Beloved by his friends and neighbors, idolized by children and grandchildren, Grandpa Ferrell leaves behind a fragrant memory of noble manhood.
The funeral service was conducted at the home Wednesday morning, June 27, by the Reverend W. H. Scrivner, of the Christian Church. Burial was in Olathe cemetery.
