Tazewell Republican, Tazewell, VA
Obituary of William Ferrell

June 2, 1904

William Ferrell was born near Belfast, in Russell County, Va., on March 18, 1826, and came to Tazewell county about thirty years ago. He died May 21st, 1904, aged 78 years 2 months and 13 days. He was baptized and joined the Missionary Baptist church 40 years ago, and was a man of strong faith and a devoted Christian all his life. The deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a good citizen, a good neighbor, a successful farmer and business man, provided well for his household and educated his children well. Brother Ferrell was greatly afflicted, patiently suffering a great deal. He took a deep interest in the welfare of his county.

When the time came for his departure he was ready and happy, and said he would be with Jesus. His funeral sermon was preached by the writer at Steelsburg, and then we buried him in the cemetery there. A large number of people attended the funeral and promised to meet Brother Ferrell in Heaven. He leaves a highly respected family, composed of his widow, four sons and one daughter.
