Obituary of John W. Gilmer

January 29, 1867
SAD ACCIDENT. - In Russell county, Virignia, on Christmas day, Mr. John Gilmer, son of Mr. Chas. Gilmer, accidentally shot himself. He was fox-hunting, and in attempting to climb a fence the gun went off in his hand, lodging the whole charge, with fatal effect, in the side of his head and face.
