JAMES GRAY
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., March 31. James Gray, last Confederate veteran in Washington county, Tenn., died at noon yesterday in the Gray community.
A native of Virginia, he was born in Russell county, son of Harvey Gray, of St. Paul, Va., and Nancy Dickenson Gray, of Castlewood, Va.
He entered the Confederate army at the age of 14 as a rookie mounted soldier and served in Virginia, W. Va., Maryland and Massachusetts.
He would have been 93 years old on April 9, 1942.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Verdie Gray; one daughter, Miss Alice Gray; one stepson, Charles Erwin, and one daughter, Mrs. Roy Murray.
The funeral will be at the Gray Station Baptist church at 3 p. m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Gray cemetery.
