Obituary of Robert Emmett Bradley Gray

August 7, 1930

A DOUBLE FUNERAL FOR TWO OF OUR OLDEST CITIZENS.

Uncle Emmett Gray and Fuller Bausell Buried Same Day at Knifong Grove.

Robert Emmett Bradley Gray, son of Nelson and Nancy Gray, was born in Russel county, Virginia, Nov. 15, 1845, and passed to the great beyond August 2, 1930, having reached the age of 84 years, 8 months and 17 days.

"Twas in his youth the U. S. engaged in the Civil War and Mr. Gray served in the Confederate Army under General Jackson for two years and nine months.

In the year 1872 he moved to Missouri and has lived in Sullivan county 62 years where he has been engaged in the occupation of farming.

January 11, 1872, he was united in marriage to Rebecca E. Jesse, who preceded him in death 26 years ago. This union was blessed with three children, one of whom a daughter, Pearl, died at the age of 4 years. Two sons, Irl and Emery, survive, together with Emery's wife and boys lived at the old home place. They tenderly cared for their father through his declining years and were a source of comfort and joy to him. Mr. Gray united with the Christian church when young and has lived a Christian life since.

He held the respect and confidence of his neighbors and friends and the love and admiration of his family.
Besides the sons, he is survived by three grandchildren, DeVane, DeVon and DeWayne.

"No, no, not dead, just away from sight,
To slumber undisturbed through one long night."

The family desire to extend thanks to all who assisted them in any way in their sorrow.

Funeral at 3 p. m. August 4, 1930, at Knifong Grove church. Sermon by Rev. J. E. Rudloff. xxx
