DIED
William Wallas Hanson was born in Coles county, Illinois, April 13, 1831, and died at his home near Exeter, Feb., 17, 1903, aged 72 years, 10 months and 4 days. He was sick but a short time and his death came as a sad shock to his friends and neighbors. Mr. Hanson was one of the old settlers, having moved to Nebraska in 1872. He was one of our most prosperous farmers, dearly loved by his family, and honored and respected by his neighbors and the business men with whom he dealt.
The funeral services were held at the home Thursday, Feb., 19, at 10 a. m. After a brief sermon by Rev. M. A. Wimberly from the text, "What I have writted I have written" Jno. 18:22, several of the old neighbors spoke very highly of the deceased as a man, as a friend and as a neighbor. W. M. NcGhie spoke of him as a neighbor, P. A. Murphy spoke of his last moments before death, Jacob Pflug spoke of him as a business man and of his relation to Christianity and W. H. Taylor spoke of him as a business man.
Mr. Hanson had not been a professing Christian, but in his last sickness he sought his Savior, and found pardon for his sins. Although his life history was almost finished he gave a bright testimony on its last page, of the power of Christ to save. He asked his wife and children to live Christian lives and meet him in Heaven, declared that he saw the angles coming, and with the words of God upon his lips passed away.
He leaves a wife, nine children and a host of friends to mourn his departure.
A large company of friends followed the remains to the Exeter cemetery where they were laid to rest awaiting the Resurrection Morn.
Mr. Hanson and family desire to thank the friends who so kindly assisted them during their said bereavement.
