Death Notice of Aaron Lilburn Hurt

TWO CIVIL WAR VETERANS DIE IN RUSSELL COUNTY OVER THE PAST WEEK-END

Two of Russell county's Civil War veterans died over the past week-end, it was learned here yesterday.

Lilburn Hurt, 92, died Sunday night and George Lee Kiser, 96, passed on Monday.

Mr. Kiser was with Lee at Appomattox but he always maintained he did not surrender. He was among a small group of soldiers whom General Pickett sent home without formal surrender. He served under Capt. H. H. Dickenson, of this county, in Company A, 29th Virginia infantry, Pickett's division, Longstreet's corps.

Mr. Kiser married Miss Elizabeth Jane Browning in 1858. She died in 1930. Surviving are nine children: Mrs. Steven Smith and Mrs. Houston Mays, Honaker; Mrs. Ader Garrett, Carterton; Albert Kiser, Hampton; Walker Kiser and Mrs. J. T. Stinson and George O. Kiser, Lebanon; Arch Kiser, Castlewood, and Mrs. Walter Holloway, Havre de Grace, Md.
