Obituary of Martin C. Jessee

February 28, 1920

Martin C. Jessee, Old Soldier, Dead.

Rev. J. T. Guy was called upon to conduct the funeral of Martin C. Jessee, of Cleveland, on the 14th inst. He was one of the oldest citizens of the county. He was born in Russell county, Oct. 7, 1828, and died at his home in Cleveland February 13, 1920. He was married to Miss Mary C. Goodwin, with whom he lived happily until her death some nineteen years ago.

Mr. Jessee is survived by five children, three daughters and two sons.

He was a member of the Methodist church and served in the Confederate army three years. He was buried in the family burying ground near the old Jessee home a short distance from Cleveland.

Mr. Jessee was one of five brothers who served in the Confederate army, and all were good soldiers.
