September 9, 1941 CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT AGE OF 100
Funeral services for Calvin Jones, 100 years old, Confederate veteran of the campaign's of General Robert E. Lee, who died yesterday at his home on Louisa road, Catlettsburg, will be held at 3 P. M. tomorrow at his residence with the Rev. Allen Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in the old Catlettsburg cemetery.
Mr. Jones, who was born in Wythe county, Virginia, joined the Confederate Army in Russell county, Va., and served under General Lee's command through many campaigns. He survived the battle of Gettysburg and was with Lee when he surrendered at Appamatox.
Mr. Jones came to Kentucky shortly after the Civil War and settled at what was then know as Poage's Landing, in Boyd county.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Jones, his third wife; two sons, Grover Jones of Red Jacket, W. Va., and Roscoe Jones, New Boston, O.; a stepson, Roy Stapleton of Catlettsburg; a step-daughter, Mrs. Minnie Fillinger, Huntington; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
