September 9, 1941 Native of Virginia Dies at Age of 100
CATTLETTSBURG, KY., (AP). Calvin Jones, a Confederate veteran who would have been 101 years of October 16, died Monday.
Born in Wythe County, Virginia, he entered the service of the Confederacy on Russell County, Virginia, when he was 22.
He said he fought for several months under General Robert E. Lee, participated in numerous major engagements and went through the battle at Gettysburg without suffering injury.
Jones came here 40 years ago from Huntington, W. Va.
He is survived by his 82-year-old widow, two sons, a stepson and a stepdaughter.
