CONFEDERATE VETERAN DIES

One of Washington's last veterans of the gray-clad armies of the Confederate States of America died in Ajlune in Lewis county, Tuesday, November 29. He was Andrew J. Kiser, 97, of Swofford Valley born in West Virginia, August 5, 1841, and he served in the Confederate army.

Mr. Kiser was well known throughout the community for his gifts of candy and apples to neighbors and passing motorists. "Grandad" Kiser died at the home of his son, Sherman Kiser, of Ajlune. He is survived by a daughter, Thursy Rhoades of Buckley, and four sons, Joe, Sam, Jim and Sherman, all of Ajlune, in addition to a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
