Obituary of Jefferson J. Kiser

November 20, 1925

Member Of Old 29th Virginia Dead

The gray ranks of the Confederate soldiers everywhere is growing fewer and fewer every day. Especially is this true in Russell county where the number of survivors is 20.

Jefferson Kiser was one of the two old vets to pass out last week. His death occurred at the home of his son, Tobe Kiser, near Finney, Russell county, he having attained the ripe old age of 83 years.

Our deceased friend saw active service in the war of the sixties, fighting on the Confederate side and a surviving comrade spoke of him this week as a soldier who never shirked a duty. Likewise he was a fine man and citizen, and a follower of Him "who so loved the world." The wife preceded him some 15 years ago.

Confederate Kiser was a Christian man and a member of the Baptist church.
