September 19, 1919 Our Dead.
Death removed from the county last Friday one of the old land marks and grand old men, John W. Kitchen, of Bolton, Russell county, his death following a lingering illness of cancer, and just three weeks after the burial of his second wife.
The deceased, who had rounded out 82 years of a useful life, fought in the Confederate army in the sixties, proving his worth as a gallant soldier, being a member of the 45th Virginia Regiment.
As a citizen the county had no better as his neighbors all testify.
Two daughters, aged 12 and 14 years, and two sons survive.
