Funeral and burial for Rev. E. A. Leonard, 84 year old retired Baptist minister, was held Friday afternoon at Bethel church, 6 miles east of Lebanon. His death occurred the day before at the home of Mrs. I. S. Leonard in Bristol, following a stroke of paralysis.
Dr. J. T. Stinson, of Bluefield, assisted by Rev. David F. White, of Lebanon, officiated.
One son, E. A. Leonard, president of the Bluefield Hardware Co., Bluefield, W. Va., and one step-daughter, Mrs. W. N. Hendricks, of Lebanon survive.
Rev. Leonard was an active minister for 63 years during which time he held Baptist pastorates in Virginia, Missouri, Oregon and Washington.
At the age of 17 years Rev. Leonard enlisted in the Confederate army and served until captured, spending some time in a Federal prison.
The consoling gospel that he had so often and so long commended to others in like afflictions was commended to his kinsmen in the funeral remarks last Friday, September 21, 1929.
Rev. Leonard was a native of Washington county, Va.
