Obituary of Henry Nathan Thacker Meade
Confederate Veteran, 100 Years Old, Dies At Orange City Home

DELAND - Henry Nathaniel Meade, 100-year-old Confederate veteran from Russell County near Lebanon, Virginia, died at 7 o'clock Saturday morning in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Pappas, whom he had been visiting since last September.

Mr. Meade had been ill for only a week. He was born Sept. 27, 1840 at Lebanon. During most of his life he pursued at farmer's career near Kingsport, Tenn.

Survivors include three other daughters, Mrs. Dora Gaddy, Mrs. Bushie Grizzle, Mrs. Sallie Sutherland, all of Tennessee and two sons, John and Richard Meade of Virginia.

Mr. Meade also left 300 grandchildren and great-grandchildren according to the last count a year ago.

Funeral and burial services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Orange City Cemetery with Jehovah's Witnesses in charge. The Stith-Griffith Company in charge of arrangements.
