Obituary of John Thomas Powers

March 27, 1925

Former Russell Man Dead At Morristown

J. T. Powers, uncle of our townsman, W. A. Powers, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. S. Cain, at Morristown, Tenn., Friday after an illness of pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Russell county. He enlisted in the Confederate army at the age of 16 and served until the end of the war, being a member of the 34th Virginia cavalry. He was married March 24th, 1865 to Miss Almeda C. Perkins and would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary March 24.

Mr. Powers is survived by his widow, one son and a daughter. Seven of his children are deceased.
