Obituary of Charles Lewis Samples

May 31, 1929

Lewis Samples, 87, Confederate soldier, died at the home of his daughter near Raven, Monday night, May 20, from infirmaties of old age. He was a well known citizen of the west end of Tazewell county and eastern Russell county. He was 6 feet seven and a half inches tall and weighed 200 pounds. He selected the best lumber off his place over a year ago and had his own coffin made by a carpenter of his vicinity. He is survived by several children. It is said he leaves a large estate.
