VETERAN OF CIVIL CONFLICT IS DEAD

Funeral Services For Lewis Samples, 87, Will Be Held Today; He Had Coffin Made More Than A Year Ago.

Richlands, Va., May 21. Lewis Samples, 87, Confederate soldier, died at the home of his daughter near Raven, Monday night, May 20, from infirmaties of old age. He was a well known citizen of the west end of Tazewell county and eastern Russell county. He was 6 feet seven and a half inches tall and weighed 200 pounds. He selected the best lumber off his place over a year ago and had his own coffin made by a local carpenter.

The funeral will be held at the home of his daughter Wednesday and interment will be in the Hankins cemetery here. He is survived by several children. He leaves a large estate it is said.
