Obituary of George Washington Smith

March 24, 1911

We are sorry to announce the death of uncle Geo. Smith, near Weavers Creek. He was in the garden and dropped dead Saturday. He leaves a wife, several children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Uncle George was a confederate soldier. One by one they are passing over the river to await for the others that are behind.


ARTRIP.

Artrip, Va. - The whole neighborhood was shocked Saturday by the sudden death of uncle George Smith, who fell dead working in his garden. He was one of the oldest veterans and will be greatly missed in the community. We extend sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.


News came to Lebanon Saturday evening announcing the death of uncle George Smith, better known as Scribe Smith, on Weavers Creek on the north side of the county. Mr. Smith was a very old man and was the father of P. R. Smith. In his death the county loses a good man.
