May 23, 1878 Patton Thompson of Lebanon, Va., is dead. He allowed a tramp named John Loyd, from Danville, Va., to attempt to "cure him in 20 days" of a bad cancer on the face. The quack used arsenic - killed his dupe - and escaped.
