Death Notice of Patrick Tignor

July 30, 1869

BRUTAL MURDER. A brutal murder was committed in Russell county, on Thursday last, by a negro named William Wright, the victim being a white man named Patrick Tignor. Some difficulty had occurred between the parties, when the negro armed himself with a musket, and went in search of Mr. Tignor. The musket snapped, when clubbing the weapon the murderer dealt his victim a blow on the head, which felled him to the ground. After he was down the infuriated negro repeated the blows until his victim's head was literally crushed and bettered to pieces. The murderer fled, and although pursued, made his escape. - Lynchburg News.
