Dear sister
I now seat myself to write you a few lines as an answer the letter I received from you the day day before yestarday I was glad to heard you was all well and sorry to hear that Rieves dident get any of his cloths but his overcoat. I havent any news of importance to write more than me and Cuming are well hopeing these few lines will find you all in the same state of health. Our Company has been on guard at Citty point about 14 miles from hear on james river. Citty point is plase where prisoners are exchanged. The yankees boated off five and six hundred while we was their they was paroled. Their was a boat load of women and children came out under a flag of truse while we was their. They always comes up with a flag of truse on one end and the stars & stripes on the other. When their old boats starts off they put me in the mind of an old gander swimming along throwing the water back behind him. It looks right antic to see them start off. The weather has been very favorable every since we have been down hear with the exception of the last week it was very cool for the last for or five days. Their has been several of our boys have come up since we come down hear. I cant see what has brought them out. the mountain certainly has been afire, Martha havent any news to write I will have to bring my letter to a close you said for me to write whither cummings had got any boots or not he hasent got any I dont think their is any to be had though he has not tried I know of his shoes are very good yet he hasent for the want of boots it is so cold I will have to bring my letter to a close so no more at present
