Camp near Richmond May the 15th 1863 Dear Sister It is with pleasure I seat myself this morning to write you a few lines to inform you that I am well hopeing when these few lines comes to hand they will find you all in good health we are still camped in 7 miles of Richmond we got orders this morning to be ready to move at any call I dont expect we will stay hear much longer we may not move fare we may just move to some plase to drill If old Hooker makes another rade on Frederigsburg we will have to go their I tell this thing you call fighting is a savage pease of business when it is looked into right. Their thousands of poor solders that wounded that will be a cripple all their lives, you may go in any of their large citties & you will see some on cruches some one arm that will never be able to sustain themselves after peas is made, and what a horriable thing it is to see them halling the wounded off of a battle field some wounded in the fase and most ever other plase you can mention. it looks bad but I recon all these things has to be. I heard that their was several of our russell boys got wounded in the fight at Frederigsburg It is well enough that rieves escaped that fight from the statement of the paper it was a heard fight. I reckon Charles has great tails to tell he is mightty out with Confederate State he agravates me sometimes to hear him talk he gets so out done he dont know what to do but to talk such foolishness. so nothing more at present your affectionate brother to M.
