Dear Pa
    It is with pleasure I seat myself this morning to drop you a few lines to to inform you that me & Cummings are well Their was five men wen out of our company the other day to help work the rode from hear to the pound gap Cummings he went with them. We are all going on in few days that is all that dont run off General Martial got up yesterday he maid a little speech the 29th on the account dissatisfaction amount them on the account of haveing to go in to Kentucky, he told them it wasent in his power to keep them from going he is ordered their with his command & is compelled to go he told them he couldent always hear the they had to go to some army where they would be of some service they couldent be satisfyed their was thirty five or forty runaway out of the companies from Carol and will a great many more go I expect Their no much dont but what we will see heard times out their but we will have put up with it. When we get out their I dont expect we will hear from one another very often. write to me when you heard from Rieves I dont expect he has ever got his transefur I havent any thing of importance to write I will have to quit I would like to see aunt Lisa Geirge cowan & all the folks before we leave but there is no chance I recon no more at present but remain your affectionate sons
