Deare sones I take this opportunity to rite you a few lines to let you know how we are and how we are getting a long we are all well as common and hope these few lines may find you both in good health we have recd. three letters from you which we were thankful to receive stating you both had a bad cold but was in tollerable good health other wise and tollerable well satisfyed we still have a good dell of rumour and a good deel turns out not to be true as usual not mutch fiting been done yet all that has been done seemes to be in our favour and I hope it may continue so I think we are in the right cause I am glad that you are in a healthy part of the county but purty much rite among the yankies they can plunder rob and steal but cannot stand powder and lead nothing to fear from them if you do not let them get the advantage in some sneking way they cannot fite a fare fite at all you are looking for a fite at phillippi I rote a letter to send to you at stanton but recd youres from that place stating you were a going to leave for phillippi Marth and Sarah rote a letter and directed it to phillippi and martha says she reconds the yankies has it by this time the children are a working a way in the corn will gettover over the second time to day our corn looks tollerable prosperous small grain looks well our harvest will be ready for cutting in a bout two weeks dol had a colt on the 15th of this month there has been a considderable call for vollinteers Col. Fields made a start for a company & got some 20 and stopped saying he could not be spared from home he said he could do more good at home Kindrick F. Fields Lampkins Candler and Jessee at the had of the companies they took the vote in the light home company if they would report ready or not the vote carryed not ready and company is broke I think it probable we will rase some two or thre companies Jessee has his company made up nearly all the Sduons(?) creek company valunteered and it is thought that Candler & Kindrick will gett their companies Washington County has or will have four more companies youre uncle Vincent was a bout to start out to see if he could make up a company but gave way to some others for a trial I think there will be a good many more companies made in this end of the state Floyd has a good many companies in with county it is uncertain whether these few lines will finde you or not if they do I want you to rite as often as you can if you cannot hear from us we can receive youres.
