August the xx 1864
Dear brother

I seat my self this morning to drop you a few lines in answer to your kind and interesting letter. I have no news of importance to write only we are all well. The children are making hay and corn is mighty prety and wheat is very good what there is of it. Pa wants to [...] his wheat thrashed as he holds it. I will tell Sam in my [...] Pa sold his cattle in the spring be fore they got fat he had to sell them or they would have been taken from him. His calves looks verry well we have five young colts we milk [...] cows and get milk to throw a way & butter a plenty I wish you and cum could be at home to share with us I wish you could be at home a saturday week quarterly meeting commences then at fergusons chapel we are a looking for a good many of the mockerson folks at them.
I am in hopes we wil have a good meeting then I wish you both could be at home then hase I expect your girl wil be here & cumminges two. Hase we havent herd from rieves since he was taken prisoner. Aunt Cat got a letter from banerd stating that Charles M Browning was missing he went out in the country to get some thing to eat & he never was herd tell of any more but I am in hopes he is captured. Vince has had a bad rising on his arm it is well but his arm is not quiet strate yet there is some thing the matter with his leg he cannot walk good it is the rumatic the matter with him I reckon. We have some apples that is getting good I wish you & cum had some of them. Hase I am a going to hunt some buries this evning & if you & Cum wil come home I wil bake you some pies.

Hase as pa is most redy to start to town I will bring my badly composed & badly writen letter to a close. Please write soon tell cummings to answer my letter to him. I would like to see him very much. Hase if you cant read this lay it a side I wil try and do better the next time.
