Dear Sister
      It is with pleasure that I again take the pains to write to you to inform you that I am well and doing well I have been to the country to preaching today for the first time in a many a day but there was but fiew country folks there the house was filled with souldiers there are but very fiew people liveing in this part of the country it has been tore up so the poeple cant live hear there are no body trying to rase anything in this country to eat for they have been runover so they think it isent worth while to try to rase any thing down hear Martha I want you to write and tell me how pa is agetting along for he wont write himself tell me whether he is getting any ground plowed or not I would like to bee at home awhile this spring to see how you are all getting along but there is no chance for me to get home this spring for furlowing will soon bee stoped the wether is too pretty the armys can soon moove any where the roads are getting good we have had but verry little winter out here we have had but verry little snow or rain
the roads has been good all winter
I suppose you have seen one account of the rade the yankees made through this country before now we captured three yankees yesterday on the rapidan that was supposed to have been on that raing party but they said that they was from Richmond that they had escaped the guard and was on their way to yankeedom. Martha I wish I could think of something to write that would interest you but there is nothing I can think of that would interest anybody for I can think of nothing but war and I know that will not interrest you before I close tell pa ma and all the rest howdy Martha write soon and give me all the news afloat in Russell
