Camp Near Pisgah church April the 17th 1864 Dear Sister I received your most welcom letter yesterday and was truly glad to hear that you all was well and still have something to eat and I hope that kind providence will continue to give you plenty for it is through and by him that we live Martha I was sorry to hear of you all looseing so many of your cattle and then have your grain taken from you at last you dident say whether you lost any of your cows or not tell me in your next letter whether you lost any of your cows or not I am a cow man myself I likes to hear from them I want you all to save them if posible for when grass cums they will do you all a heap of good Thomas Williams landed hear day before yesterdy and has joined the regiment he seems to bee verry well sadisfide if I had have known he was cumming I could have gotten thirty days furlough on him for if a man gets a recruit he can get a thirty days furlugh for him. that man that said he brought a letter from me was mistaken it was James A Gilmers letter he brought but I sent my over coat by him I suppose you have gotten it before now I expect he left it at town or at uncles Billeys one Martha I would bee glad to swap and get in the cavalry but I dont expect Williams would swap me but maby if I could get a good soulder and hearty man hear he would swap me if I knew where to write I would write to Charles but as they are a going to moove it would be unsurten buisness to write to him. if he is in that country when you get this letter tell him to write to me. Martha I am glad to hear of the cavalry leaveing that country and I hope the ky cavalry has left nevr to return for I would rather hear of the yankees cumming in there thant to hear of them cumming back there for the yankees would do you less harm than they would they have never done any fighting nor they dont intend to do any. Martha when any thing goes rong at home I want you to write it let it bee good or bad I want to hear it. Tell James I want him to bee as good as his word tell him that I want him to see that I get a calf skinpar of boots next winter. tell me in your next letter who Sarah married and where she has got to for I havent heard from her in along time I would like to hear from her once more an how.
