Richmond Virginnia June the 9 1861 Dear brothers I seet my self this morning on an olde box to try to rite you a few lines to let you know that I am sill alive I am well and hope these few lines will finde you all in good health wee was two days and two nights on the cars comeing here and wee start this morning to Wheeling at six O clock. I never got a good drink from the time I started from abingdon untill I got to Richmond. our fare is just moderate it is sower bread meat and water. I said our but it is my fare; they all drink coffee but me. there is three regimets ordered to start this morning. There is about five thousand men here that is at the new fargrouns we dont know how many there is in all but I tell you there is a few. I can see you all in the corn field ought there next to John's patch under that walnut tree where we have all set together. As wee start in a few minits I will have to bring my letter to close. the wagons are here know for our bagage. Excuse bad righting spelling mistakes blotches, &c. for I had not time to right.
