July 26th 1863 Camp Near Lieuray page co Va Dear parents brothers & sisters I take the opportunity this beautiful sunday morning to inform you all that I am still alive and well and hope these fiew lines will finde you all well and doing well at home we come to this place yesterday eavening and I expect we will stay hear untill morning I expect we are on our rode to olde virginia & maby to Fredericksbur we are going some where in that part of the country. Hayes & Cum was over hear a few days ago I was within about fifteen miles of them but I did not get to see them they was at winchester and I was down below their about fifteen miles. I tryed to get a pass to go to see them but they would not let me go I went to general Johnston to get him to sine a pass for me and I said we might get orders to go the other way and he would not sine it. They are now on the other side of the ridge going towarge Richmond. I expect we will have another fight some where betwen hear & Richmond When we get over about Fredericksburg and get stationed I expect I will get to see hayes & Cum. I dont think we will try to go into Maryland any more any more Shortly I think when we get down about fredericksburg we will stay down their I think Lee is done going to maryland though he might fool me and take me back their again but I dont think he intends to go their any more I dont think we made any thing by going to maryland this time we only organized the yankee army by oing in their I saw more men in Pensylvania & Maryland in the towns than I use to see in our towns in times of peace I saw men in pensylvania that had been discharged from the yankee army since the chancellersville fight they said that they was in the fight at chancellersville. Tell Maryann that I broke the ring that she gave me tarring up railrode we tore up a good deal of the Boltimore & Ohio railrode tell Alley and all the rest of the little ones howdy for me Martha I got 2 aletters from you the other day written the tenth & fifteenth of June they both come the same time and I had got two or three letters written since them as I have nothin worth writing I will have to bring my few & imperfect lines to a close and I will write again as soon as we get station.
