Dear Pa I seat my self this morning to write you a few lines to let you know that we left Edmison & david Cowan in the vicinty of monterey major Fletcher took them out in the country to get thm in a house he said he would stay with them for or five days. I tolde george cowan to tell you to send uncle vincent to him just as soon as he could get there When we left him he was verry lo [...] when this gets to your hand Edmison in my opinion will be on the meand or dead I hope he will be on the mend but if you could see him you would think there was not much hopes but while there is breath there his hopes. we are within
