Camp Near orange Court house August 15th 1863
Dear sisters
      I received kind [...] day before yesterday and was truely glad to hear that you was all [...] are still camped two [...]om orange courthouse [...] nice camp and plenty good water. we are fixing up hear like they might have anotion of staying hear some time but I doubt whether we stay hear long or not. We may stay hear some time & we may not.
Charles [...]ers is still alive and well [...] that he wrote home a few days ago or I would have written sooner. I dont know where hayes & Cummings are some say that they are at hanover junction but I expect they are at fredericksburg. Ever thing seemes to bee quait at this time we cant hear of the yankees mooveing any where but I expect they are fixing for a big fight some where in the count[..] did hear that they was [...] on culpepper but I think [...] fawling back from culpepper Martha I havent any thing write that would interest at tall there is nothing going on hear worth writing. James A Gilmer & Lafayett is well Martha the best I have to write is that I am well and I expect you would rather hear of that than any thing else so I will bring my fiew and imperfect lines to a close by beging you to excuse my bad wrting & spelling W R Gilmer
