Pa I havent time to tell you anything about our trip for I havent but a few minutes to write in. I write mearly to let you know that I am alive and in tolarly good health. I went through the fight without getting hurt but it looked like no man could escape. Thomas B Cowan is sick he wasent in the fight. James A Gilmer is well. Their is only eight men in our company and I make one of the number our Company marched across the potomoac in line of battle. Pa I have seen some of the prettiest land in this state that I ever saw and fine horses their is plenty. I saw more dead yankees in the last fight than I ever saw before and I hope we can settle the dificulty without killing that many again its getting dark I will have to quit so nothing more at present.
